The Anime world is full of wondrous things and beautiful creations. This gallery is mainly filled with pretty girls and intriguing creatures.
Hello and welcome to Critique Night. Critique night is dedicated to artist’s helping artist’s improve their work and reach their highest goals. This is round 4 of Crit night hosted here on Sammacha.com and I have 3 awesome submissions here. Let’s see what we can learn.
Pic #1. Roxanne by Sammacha Artist's Statement: Recently I have decided to once again work with digital "painting" while continuing to use my line work. I really feel that I have come a long way with digital art (and art in general) in the past year. I have been focusing more on anatomy and light sources. Of course any suggestions are helpful but my main focus at the moment are those two things.
Pic #2 Celeste by Antumbra Artist Statement: Tried a new shading technique with ambient occlusion while mixing colors in the lights and shadows. Not sure I like where it is at right now, but I definitely want to keep improving! Any critique you are looking for in particular? Definitely the shading and the coloring.
Pic #3: Walk with me by FF-Boy Artist Statement: "This is my best work I have done so far. This time, I wanted to practice background and painting technique. For the critique, I would love to hear anything that you think they need to be improved, such as anatomy, composition, perspective, color scheme, painting techniques, etc. Thank you in advance! ^^"
Ok guys I will be at Vancoufur 2015. Hoping to get an artist Alley table were you can get a some quick commissions or some merchandise. Since this is a furry con most of the artwork will be themed as such, though commissions of all kinds will be available. Though if you arent interested in that type of crowd I doubt you would go lol.
(thats like hating anime and going to Anime north! just why?)
so you’ll find me there in a sparkling black and gold dress.
come by and visit!
Pics to be posted!
Leinad Female Version – Wardrobe Ref Sheet
I’ve done some clothing design for (Fem) Leinad Obtrebla’s wardrobe/clothing for different settings:
- Modern Day
This characters wardrobe was quite fun to draw and design clothing for. It was something a little bit different. Overall i am quite happy with the designs that he has chosen (we went through quite a few in the beginning for the tribal warrior). The steampunk, I am happy to say is re-used from the earlier design I created for the image “The Hallway”. the more modern one is not to my taste but I do like the look of it. She is much more tribal in colours and attire then her male counter part.
This character belongs to http://www.furaffinity.net/user/leinadobtrebla
Hello, and welcome to the first crit night on Sammacha.com.
As usual the first run is always full of a few bumps but I feel that it went alright. If anyone has any feedback on what can be improved I would be happy to hear it.
I must thank most everyone for submitting their artwork and their critique on time. (Yes since this is the first crit night I have made an exception to the rules)
I hope everyone will be able to benefit from tonight and many more to come, so, on to the artwork.
Everyone was assigned one image to critique and it was optional to critique any other piece you felt like. To read the critique you received just click on your picture. Feel free to leave comments or send me an e-mail and I will forward it to the owner of the picture or the critic.
I look forward to having another crit night in the near future, new participants welcome. Click here for more information on Crit Night
Just testing out my pencils and paper, it was a good learning exp, plus Butterflies are not easy to draw! Damn mirror image XD
Good to work with such a rich colour on paper again 🙂
So basically I wanted a somewhat simple butterfly that had some stunning colors. There are some very interesting ones out there but I chose this one for the vibrant blue, purple and orange. It creates a great contrast and will be perfect for testing out the blending of the color son the paper.
The blue pansy butterfly is a very pretty one 🙂
To do a mirror image on paper, well its really quite a pain. I started by sketching out one side then scribbling reference lines all over it to try and get the correct proportions and angles on both sides.
When I was happy with that I moved onto a new pencil line art fixing up the details of the pattern within the wings. I ended up doing just one side to get a feel for where the colors went and how the pattern should look. (you can see them in the gallery below) In the end it came out a bit different then the ref but I think I like it.
Here was the complete butterfly line work that I came up with.
I was actually pretty happy with this piece, I got most of the shapes worked out.
I continued to do a quick graphite version, as I needed to test out the paper with both colors and graphite. ( I have never used this type of paper before). Actually it was not quick, it was pretty time consuming, what a pain to color a mirrored image even with the line work lol.
It went well but it was quite different then what I am used to. This paper holds the graphite very well and the blending doesn’t work the same for me.
The entire process can be seen below if you are interested. the entire… project, took a few days to complete over a course of I maybe 2 or 3 weeks as I didn’t work on it everyday. more of an on and off project in between, that thing called life.
This is one of my new OC’s David (I’m still building him)
Right now I don’t really want to say much about his story at this time
This one is more of the concept ^^
I already know all the colors but i was just seeing how I liked the design, and yeah
I think I do like him.
I am so glad to finally have drawn him! he’s been in my head for ages
I hope I can draw him more often as well
So for the Back story I’ll just say …
he is partially royalty, but more so a mercenary. Why?
because he feels like it, and doesn’t really believe in the ways of his families ruling.
Its like a hobby to him.
do they know? o maybe O-o
he also has an older brother that i would like to draw at a later date
o yes I realize the sword is a little bent
He is supposed to be holding it, its not on the belt right now
O and the broach thing he has is the phoenix’ head, but his jacket is open so…
you cant really see it
Here is a quick ref I did a while back, i really need to draw this character again!
So this is an old drawing I did of my character, now named Sammacha.
(I did this back in 2007)
I was still learning to draw people at that time.
This is one of the first picture’s of her that I posted online (and one of my first digital drawings)
I know I have improved a lot more since this pic but I still like it
Even if its not the greatest picture it still holds a lot of value to me
As originally stated
“she lives in a world shrouded in miasma and flies on wings that can burn like fire.”
Why the character was created:
Sammacha is based off of me and was created when I was assigned an art project to make a character and a fantasy comic that resembles you and had X abilities that you chose from a list. The hardest part for everyone was that it had to look like you, so it had to be a person!
Everyone chose the basic and most common ones, flight, magic, and wielding of a weapon then made their character original. My character lives in a world shrouded in miasma, and flies with wings that can create fire. She can wield a sword and her can wounds excrete a toxic gas.
As well as Sammacha there were several other characters in the story and of course a ton of fantasy creatures.
The comic did get me an A, but beyond the grade, I was not satisfied with the final product as a whole.
My drawing skills weren’t that good and the story was weird because of the assignment, and there was much room for improvement. Though I did like some of the comic after it was handed in, it was basically lost forever as I never got it back. Maybe one day I will make a new one.
Anyways I used my character as an avatar all over the web and then she just sort of stuck. Though, she will never be finished, like me, will always be a work in progress…
So 2014 is here and whats new?
I have no idea! At least not about whats new. I know that this year I am going to be finishing some fan art, actually I hope to finish a lot of it. I have a ton of WIPS that where just ideas I never finished set aside in my “Do it later” pile. That pile is huge….
Thankfully, I’ve already started on this by finishing my blue pansy butterfly and my cute walking renamon. I know, I know, the blue pansy is not fan art but it at least helps put a notch in my “do it later” pile.
I am quite happy with the way they both turned out. I think that this paper has worked out well with the rich and vibrant pencil crayons. Great practice for my blending. I will be sure to do this more often. This year I will probably be taking more of a break form Digital art though I am still going to be using it from time to time.
Hmm Scenery would be another good thing to work on…
the list goes on and on, anyways.
this year you can expect to see more fan art and more traditional artwork being posted on my site.
Or you can contact me by E-mail: SamanthaLim@Sammacha.com
This outta keep me busy in between my job hunt. Until Next time
Almost anyone can join. I am open to people of all skill levels submitting their art work for constructive criticism.
*If you would like to receive critique on your work you MUST be willing to critique the work of another person ON TIME!
You Must Read The Rules
to participate, please contact me at SamanthaLim@sammacha.com by the deadline stated on the schedule
This is not for people who do photo-manipulations, photography, sewing, creative writing, crafts or 3D art.
Pictures do not need to be complete. Sometimes it is very valuable to receive critique on a picture before it is finished. this helps you to improve the overall finished project. However it must be clean ( not a ton of messy scribbles) so we can see what you are trying to create. Its no use asking someone to critique a picture if they aren’t sure what you are trying to accomplish. Submit something worth while.
Don’t forget you can request Critique on a certain part of your drawing in particular.
- Post your own artwork. The reason for Crit night is not to see who is the best artist on the page, its to get an insight to how you can improve. DO NOT post artwork that is not your own. DO NOT post tracings or copies of other peoples work. we are looking for YOUR original artwork.I will accept fan art but it must not be a simple copy of another piece, that would be copyright infringement. Using a reference picture is ok.
- Quality Pictures. Please submit quality pictures. This means using a scanner or taking quality photos or your artwork. We want to be able to actually see your artwork!
- Water Marks. I myself use a water mark on my artwork and I understand its purpose completely. When you apply a watermark to your artwork please do it in a way which does not obstruct or distort the image (make the watermark fairly transparent).
- Permissions. Keep in mind that this is a PUBLIC BLOG. the public will be able to view all the images which you are allowing me to post for crit night. Please don’t submit things which are personal or contain personal information. By adding them to crit night you are allowing me to post them on my website and or blog for the purposes of Crit night (promotion, examples etc.)
- Sexual images and Pornography. Again, this is open to people of all skill levels and various ages. I understand nudity and sexual images but please submit what you would deem “tasteful.” To put it short and simple no hard core porn please! if your not sure please ask.
- Violence. Yet Again, this is open to people of all skill levels and various ages. Please no horribly graphic violent images.
- Offensive Images. No Overly offensive images such as very racist, religious or political images. Light humor and stereotypes are allowed.
